Planetary - Coaxial coarse and fine focusing, with planetary reduction gear
system, is a more advanced version of the basic rack and pinion system.
This is found on the 1900, 2700, 2800 and 3300 series compound
microscopes.
Coaxial Controls – (see coarse/fine adjust)
Composite Video - composite Video signal combines luminance and chrominance in
a single signal. Differentiated from S-Video, where the two signals (brightness
and color) are carried separately.
Compression - The digital representation of media in an efficient storage format. For
video, motion-JPEG is often used. Compression may produce a poor quality
image, in that the original picture cannot be reconstructed exactly.
Condenser (Microscopes) - a lens or lens system located either within or below the stage,
which helps to focus the light coming into the specimen from the microscope’s
light source. All Ken-A-Vision compound microscopes ( have at least a single
lens located within the opening of the stage.
Standard – glass lens focusing light from illuminator in base of microscope.
Abbe - a moveable lens system under the stage (sub-stage) that can be moved up
and down vertically, regulating the amount of light from the illuminator
(light source). It contains an adjustable iris to control the beam diameter
of the light. An experienced microscopist can have excellent control over
the amount of light illuminating the slide by manipulating the iris, or
moving the Abbe condenser up or down. It is very useful at higher
magnifications, and for sophisticated microscope use.
Connectors – refers to the types of connectors made between a KAV camera and a
computer, TV monitor, VCR, DVR, Audio-Visual Projector, or other display
device.
Audio – Usually also an RCA jack and composite cable. Usually the plug and
jack are colored white.
Cat. 5 cable – Fifty foot (50’ or 15.2m) cable provided with the Ceiling DocCam
II, which has RU-45 Jacks at each end, connecting the Ceiling DocCam II,
with the RJ-45 plug on the wall plate provided with the Ceiling DocCam
II. Function of cable is to carry the video (analog) signal to the wall plate
for further distribution of the signal to in room devices such as TV,
projectors and the like. The cable also carries power to the camera.
RCA – Is generally accepted as the name of the (usually) color-coded jack used to
carry a composite signal. KAV uses an RCA as the composite output,
{though in some models an S-Video jack is also available).
