Resolution (See Appendix A for more exhaustive detail on video resolution)
Image Resolution - A measurement of the quality of a video image based on the
number of pixels that make up the image.
Microscope - is the ability to tell two points apart as separate points. If
the resolving power of your lens is 2um that means two points that are
2um apart can be seen as separate points. If they are closer together
then that, they will blend together into one point.
Video - While all (NTSC) TV sets and program material (broadcasts, tapes, disks,
etc.) use the same 525 scan lines, the advertised resolution (240, 425, 500,
etc.) refers to the horizontal resolution which is the number of side by side
dots that can be reproduced within any one line.
The number of scan lines is the limit for vertical resolution, the number of
dots in a column that can be reproduced. It is pretty much the same for all
decent NTSC TV sets of moderate or large size. (See also Appendix A)

Smear – This is an image artifact that can affect the quality of the image
(Blooming is another artifact – see above). Smear is defined as light leakage into
the transfer part of the CCD camera chip, causing unwanted vertical lines in the
image. It results in a distorted image but can be avoided by using correct lighting,
Software
Applied Vision ™ for Windows - Ken-A-Vision’s own software (Version 3.0
available Spring, 2007) which works seamlessly with Ken-A-Vision digital USB
products. It allows for the capture of single images, time-lapse sequences, time-
lapse movies, and movies. Advanced functionalities such as image
amalgamation, measurement, and image marking are also available. Images are
exportable to Word, WordPerfect, Power Point and other equivalent presentation
programs.
Ken-A-Vision Capture for Macintosh – Ken-A-Vision Capture is a Mac OS X
application allowing users to capture images, record movies, and display
full-screen video from supported Ken-A-Vision cameras.
